Serge or Interest [Sun Review]
HIP-HOP titans JAY-Z and KANYE WEST have offered their services to KASABIAN.
The Leicester lords are not short of famous fans, OASIS, Brazil footballer KAKA and Hollywood’s ROSARIO DAWSON included.
But their management have now been sounded out about signing to the music publishing wing of Jay-Z’s record label, while Kanye has made enquiries about working on new material with the band’s songwriter SERGE PIZZORNO.
A source said: “Kasabian’s publishing deal is coming up soon and Jay-Z has heard their music and loved it. It’s rock ’n’ roll that appeals to different music fans. The new stuff could fill any dance floor. Kanye loves British music and was bowled over by the last Kasabian album. It could open the door to the US for the band.”
Kasabian showed the versatility that tickled Jay-Z and Kanye by reworking the intro to their big tune LSF with You Got The Love by THE SOURCE featuring CANDI STATON on Friday.
The Albert Hall gig, for the Teenage Cancer Trust, was outstanding and I was lucky enough to introduce Serge, TOM MEIGHAN, CHRIS EDWARDS, IAN MATTHEWS, JAY MEHLER and BEN KEALEY on stage.
I say lucky — standing in front of 5,500 lager-soaked punters was a real Imodium moment.
The charity does incredible work with young people going through cancer. Serge and Tom talk more about it with Mighty Boosh star NOEL FIELDING in the video above.
I’ve also had a sneaky listen to the band’s new album, The West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, out on June 8, and it should put them in the major league. Tracks such as Vlad The Impaler, Thick As Thieves, Fire and Underdog will be the songs of the summer in 2009.
See for yourself by downloading Vlad The Impaler from kasabian.co.uk for four days from Tuesday at 7.30pm. First proper single Fire is out on June 1.
The video for Fire will be a belter too. The boys will be in Joburg, South Africa, this week firing a ferocious arsenal of weapons for it.
Speaking backstage at the sell-out fundraiser, Tom told me: “It’s going to be mental, proper Dirty Harry stuff.”
Serge added: “Friday was only our fourth gig with the new songs.
“We loved it. I can’t wait for summer.”
Nor can your army of fans, gentlemen.
