Kasabian steal show at One Big Weekend

Kasabian stole the show from headliners Snow Patrol at Radio 1’s One Big Weekend, as Basement Jaxx took a lot of their audience too.

Tom Meighan and Co were in an uncompromising mood as they played to a huge crowd during their penultimate slot in the main stage tent, mixing tracks from all three albums.

An aggressive ‘Empire’ prompted lead singer Meighan to pull out the rock and roll clichés: “everyone in this tent, raise your hands,” he shouted with the crowd duly responding.

Their more psychedelic new tracks ‘Fire’ and ‘Underdog’ may have been the inspiration behind guitarist Serge Pizzorno wearing a headband for the set, but they sounded just as tight as older tracks ‘Stuntman’ and ‘Processed Beats’, maybe even tighter than the Samurai style ponytail Meighan was sporting.

The Leicester band also found time to murder Candi Staton’s ‘You’ve Got The Love’ during their performance as well as dropping lyrics from Grandmaster Flash’s ‘The Message’ into the set.
