Until the filming of the video for Kasabian’s current single Fire, guitarist Sergio Pizzorno had always thought of himself as a pacifist hippie. All that changed when the Leicester musician found himself standing on the outskirts of Cape Town, legs braced and hands gripping a Kalashnikov rifle as it spat live rounds into the African desert.

“We had to fire these AK47s – what a job that I get to do that!” Serge exclaims. “I was holding this gun quite nervously before I fired it and I didn’t feel like I wanted to really do this, since it was pretty fucking scary. I let off 18 rounds and then I was like, ‘Right! Get me a box of ammunition! I’m here all day!’ That’s just not me, since I’m a real placid hippie. But I have to be honest and say it was a fucking buzz letting off these weapons.”

Kasabian @ Brighton Dome 16/05/09 [The Great Escape Festival]

Kasabian headlined the Brighton Dome tonight as part of The Great Escape Festival. They played a storming set [as per usual] and also debuted new song ‘Where Did All The Love Go?’, much to the delight of the audience.

Also supporting were new bands Our Fold and Dark Horses, which were both good, but entirely different sounds. We even saw Tom nip out to watch Dark Horses, who are sort of electro folk-rock.

Kasabian were out of this world. I’m so glad I was present and priviledged to hear Where Did All The Love Go? It’s groovy, it’s retro, it’s [dare I say it] Oasis-y – I love it! I did film it [sorry, but the sound is crap]. Was a bit annoyed by people crowdsurfing – it’s a new song, afterall…

The crowd were in fine voice and Tom commented on how good everyone was. I did get some jokes – I yelled out “Chris” and I think I scared the poor man. Someone threw beer over Tom, who was standing still at the time and didn’t move an inch [what a trooper]. He seemed like ‘And yeah, what? Think that’s gonna phase me’. That was hilarious. I also loved Jay looking all cool in his sunglasses and Serge’s dancing.

Mark Selby may have missed out on topping snooker’s charts at the Betfred.com World Snooker Championship, but his close pal Chris Edwards is hoping for a number one hit with rock stars Kasabian.

Bass player Edwards was at the Crucible to see Selby’s first round match with Ricky Walden, and followed the action closely on TV as the Jester suffered an agonising 13-12 defeat in the quarter-finals to John Higgins.

“We’ve got our new album coming out in early June, so for us to get a number one and Mark to have won the world title would have been a great double,” said the 28-year-old. And while Selby may not have any more snooker to look forward to this season, he does have the chance to see Kasabian play live for the first time. “He’s not had a chance to go to one of our gigs yet but we’re going on tour with Oasis this summer so he’s hoping to make one,” said Edwards.
