Kasabian: Is quiet the new loud?

Posted in Reviews on July 2, 2009 by Jennijops

While Kasabian has always been known for being self-assured rockers with strong grooves, they tone down the music in this their third album to confound critics..

The looping grooves that fans have come to expect from Kasabian, manifest in the track, “Underdog.” Indeed, even from the get-go, the band makes it clear that they can go soft, successfully.

Kasabian turn massive Glastonbury crowd into giant choir

Pyramid Stage crowd are ‘on fire’ for anthemic set

Kasabian turned one of the biggest crowds so far at this year’s Glastonbury festival into a giant choir tonight (June 27).

Such was the size of the crowd at the Pyramid Stage that it swamped the festival’s biggest field as the group kicked off their set.

Taking to the stage with the intro of ‘Underdog’ already playing, Kasabian coolly picked up their instruments and launched straight into the opening track of latest album ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum’.

Review: Kasabian, Rock City

Posted in Reviews on June 25, 2009 by Jennijops

Tom Meighan and Sergio Pizzorno – the two central figures in Kasabian – have recently been vehemently dispelling the common perception that Kasabian are just a simple ‘lad-rock’ band, and stipulating that their music is much, much more than a soundtrack to a pub full of beered up Stone Island-clad football fans on a Saturday night.

And while they cannot refute their place in such a genre entirely due to their (possibly oblivious) challenging for their peers Oasis’s title of Biggest Band In Britain, a band whose very existence stems from lad-rock DNA, they have, at least, now expanded their aural out-goings with a wonderfully deranged and psychedelic third album. Take Aim debuted @ Nottingham Rock City 24/06/2009

Posted in News, Photos, Reviews on June 25, 2009 by Jennijops

There word on the street is Kasabian dropped Take Aim into the set last night @ Rock City in Nottingham [a gig I was almost going to attend and wish I had… :(].

Nottingham is one of their favourite cities to tour so they will still do it regardless of money they make, and £22.50 X 2450 people isn’t bad. Take Aim was BETTER than the album version, when that trumpet came on I knew it was Take Aim was so excited and Serge nailed it. They did however replace Me Plus One with Take Aim as I’m sure they didn’t do Me Plus One.

Set List in no order:

Empire
Vlad The Impaler
Underdog
Swarfiga
Take Aim
Stuntman
You Got The Love/LSF
Fire
Where Did All The Love Go?

Club Foot
Shoot The Runner
The Doberman
Fast Fuse

Kasabian @ O2 Academy Glasgow 18/06/09 [Photos/Video]

What can I say about Kasabian’s Glasgow O2 gig. It was epic. It was monumental. Such a top gig. The ‘weejans’ were on form – singing ‘get loose get loose’ during the verses of Vlad, which was amazing. I’d never heard that done before. They make for great backing singers. Also, before the encore, they starting the la’s LSF without any prompt whatsoever, in perfect tune. I thought Kasabian’s Newcastle gig was amazing. This one took the biscuit, the cake, the whole kit ‘n’ caboodle…

Kasabian @ Caird Hall, Dundee 16th June [Review/Setlist/Swarfiga Debut]

Posted in Reviews, Video on June 17, 2009 by Jennijops

Kasabian debut new song Swarfiga at Caird Hall last night!

“Great concert, the whole band as mentioned were totally up for it, as were the crowd. Ian really shined behind the kit tonight. I thought the Vlad intro thing was going to play a few times to tease the crowd, but must have just been a mistake, haha. Swarfiga sounded good. Wasn’t expecting to hear it so it was a nice wee treat.” [thanks Evo]

Kasabian gig was a slow burner

Posted in Reviews on June 14, 2009 by Jennijops

swindonKasabian have always been a band close to my heart since seeing them explode at Manchester Uni 5 years ago, a gig that was on a par with Stone Roses at Blackpool ballroom 1989, both events cornerstones in the evolution of rock and roll.

The passion, the zeitgeist truly marked the spirit of the age, from then on we knew that we were part of something that was going to be massive. A mojo was found.
